Roger Ballen: Theater of the Absurd is the eponymously titled catalog of Roger Ballen’s photography exhibition. Born in 1950 in New York, he migrated to the Republic of South Africa in 1974 and settled down in Johannesburg. In his early years, he took photos of the harsh living conditions of Caucasians and Boers in remote villages of South Africa with a documentary approach. Later on, he turned to installation photography, building up a photography style that features psychological and spatial relationships and demonstrating the sense of the existence of mankind. This made him one of the outstanding contemporary artists. From his unique perspectives, he re-organizes everything in his sight with peculiar approaches to render surreal scenes.
