The Postmodern Turn summarizes and analyses the whole literature and culture of post-modernism. What did post-modernism go through from being cast aside to being popular? In this book, professor Ihab Hassan, the top one of postmodernism critics, straightens out the developing process of postmodernism from its birth, including not only the original concept, rational analysis, but also the forward-looking perspectives and retrospective judgments. It assembles Professor Hassan’s research results on postmodernism theory and culture over the past 30 years. The book has rich content, avant-garde theory, accurate material and diverse perspectives. It explores the postmodernism theory in breadth and depth. There are in total four parts, including ten chapters with different topics, Hassan presents them in various formats and fonts according to their contents. The first part “The Prelude of Postmodernism” includes the first chapter “Literature of Silence”, which mainly describes the origin of postmodernism and the cultural bedding before its birth. The second part “Postmodernism Concept”, covering from the second chapter to the fourth chapter, sets the core concept of postmodernism as "internal uncertainty" based on the analysis of complicated postmodernism concepts. The third part “Post-modern Literature and Criticism” which includes the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth chapter, mainly exemplifies and evaluates the most important representative works (both literary and criticism) and representative figures. The last part “Epilogue of Post-modernism”, consisting of the ninth and the tenth chapter, reviews the development status of the whole postmodernism, offering both a conclusion and a prospect of the development of post-modernism.
