Foreword for 2019 CAFA Undergraduate Students’ Graduate Artwork Exhibition
The 2019 CAFA Undergraduate Students’ Graduate Artwork Exhibition opens in the midsummer time. From June 6 to 25, CAFA will showcase the all-round achievements of the 893 students from School of Chinese Painting, School of Plastic Arts, School of Experimental Art, School of Humanities, School of Design, School of Architecture, School of Urban Design, Institute of Arts Administration and Education.
In recent years, adhering to the CAFA’s motto of “To reach the broad and great while penetrating the subtle and minute(尽精微 致广大)”, the academy has enhanced the educational reform, and improved all majors’ pedagogic goals and measures to better suit the society’s development. Especially in undergraduate teaching, the academy lays emphasis on mutual learning of teachers and students, and focuses more on students’ thinking and innovation during their art practices. The graduate artworks are a summary of the undergraduate students’ accomplishments in art studies and practices, a reflection of what they have learned and felt, and an embodiment of their techniques, thoughts, aesthetic consciousness and art taste. This year’s undergraduate students have made new breakthroughs in media, forms and art languages of their works, which display both the academic characteristics of their respective majors and the open-minded, brave-in-exploration passion of the youths. The “specialized” and “cross-boundary”, “integration” and “communication” qualities illustrative of our time are also conspicuously shown in their works, manifesting CAFA students’ distinct personalities and determination to make progress.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. The Undergraduate Students’ Graduate Artwork Exhibition is a goal to the students’ campus learning, and a starting point to the next stage of their life. I hope this exhibition will be a beginning of CAFA students’ pursuit in art and a beautiful life. I hope you stay true to your original self, always stay hungry for knowledge, stay in awe of the academic learning, and contribute yourself to the world of new era in the future.
