The name of the exhibition "Round and Develop" implies the evolution of painting, as well as the laws that underline the way things work in the world. The physical and spiritual aspects of everything, in the time and space dimensions, develop into the inherent mechanism and language rules of art, which is non-stoppingly changing, going round and round and developing throughout the process. "Round and Develop" breaks the traditional linear narrative pattern, and adopts systematic research that focuses on the ontological order of the language of painting. Through the historical evolution of language, it ponders on the contemporary evolution of the spirit of the time and cultural value, and discusses the cultural mission and social value of the language of painting. "Round and Develop" is not only a platform for national communication over comprehensive material painting, but also an academic review of the development of comprehensive material painting. The exhibition explains the contextual background of contemporary painting, and provides a route for observation and analysis of the language of comprehensive material painting in contemporary China. It also discusses the evolution pattern of the language ontology of painting, and relationship between artistic spirit of the time and contemporary aesthetics, in order to provide a macroscopic perspective to the history, and to analyze the significance of comprehensive material painting to art creation and university education in the long run.

CAFA has a significant academic stand and social influence in the comprehensive material painting field. As the initiator of the programme, it attaches great importance to the academic research, and hopes to comprehensively display the latest development and achievements of comprehensive material painting in China by showcasing results of research and education over comprehensive material painting in Chinese universities over the past decades, and works by representative artists of the field. The last tour of the "Round and Develop" exhibition in Beijing is not only a high-quality academic communication between Chinese universities, but also a successful experiment of building an academic platform, or even a cultural system of the new era, a new and sustainable road for the development of easel painting in China, together with other outstanding institutions and artists, with the help of the National Arts Fund. The exhibition receives great support from CAFA, and is undertaken by CAFA Art Museum and CAFA Yanjiao Campus Administrative Office.

The success of the "Round and Develop" exhibition's Beijing tour also means the success of the exhibition program supported by the China National Arts Fund. CAFA has the plan to publish an academic catalogue of the exhibition, which includes not only works of the participating artists, but also unique thinking and theoretical explorations of scholars of the field. The "Round and Develop" exhibition is expected to stimulate new ideas of contemporary Chinese painting, and reversely support the development of university art education in China. In a time of economic globalization and the resulting massive cultural interactions, the development of Chinese contemporary painting should also have a global vision, and connect with the language system of the international art world. The development of culture and art may strengthen the soft power of a nation, and we hope for the Chinese cultural spirit to be widely appreciated by the world one day.
