中英博物馆对话——关于当代美术馆的角色思考

作为“2015中英文化交流年”的项目之一,英国泰特美术馆和中央美术学院美术馆共同举办了“2015中英博物馆对谈”,并于11月2日呈现了第一场关于当代美术馆角色的学术讨论,讨论方向包括“艺术机构应该如何以及为谁服务?”“权力和义务的结构如何分配?”等。

本次研讨会分为两个部分,第一部分由来自中英两国的多位美术馆专业人士从其所在的美术馆工作经历出发,谈自己对美术馆角色的相关思考。

Maria Balshaw,Director of The Whitworth

来自英国惠特沃斯美术馆的Maria Balshaw首先发言,她认为,艺术需要社会的补助,也需要社会的参与。属于曼彻斯特大学的惠特沃斯美术馆坐落在公园里,这种恬静放松的环境也反映了惠特沃斯美术馆为公众服务的宗旨,即让参观的观众感到舒适。惠特沃斯美术馆展出过当代艺术,也展出历史文物,独特的是它们还有关于墙纸的展出。最后Maria Balshaw引用一次惠特沃斯美术馆举办的活动中,参与观众写下的评价“惠特沃斯美术馆让你成为更出色的人”作为总结,并称这是对惠特沃斯美术馆的最高评价。

王璜生馆长介绍CAFAM系列展览

随后王璜生馆长发言,从知识的公共性和文化的民主性出发谈美术馆的角色问题。他引用博伊斯提出的“人人都是艺术家”口号和法国马尔罗对”文化民主化“的定义“让更多人接近艺术作品和精神产品”,并列举了中央美术学院美术馆在这方面践行的例子,如“CAFAM无形的手”展览的观众参与板块。同时,王馆长指出,知识是一种结构,是对已然知识的挑战、怀疑、批判,以不断获得重构。美术馆作为知识的生产者,通过展出的藏品帮助建构美术史的写作,并列举了央美美术馆举办过的北平艺专系列藏品展。对比了中西方美术馆公共性参与方面的努力,王璜生指出我们中方仍在努力。最后他引用了博伊斯展览中的一句话“快乐是鲜活的,痛苦也是鲜活的”他希望美术馆的活动更是鲜活的。

和前两个与学院紧密相联的美术馆不同,英国泰特利物浦美术馆最初的角色是帮助城市复兴,其坐落在艾伯特码头。来自英国泰特利物浦美术馆的Andrea Nixon介绍,英国泰特利物浦美术馆属于泰特集团,是现当代艺术在伦敦之外最大的美术馆,展览由董事会主管,泰特利物浦美术馆展示的作品都是泰特集团从来自世界各地的艺术品中精心挑选出来的。这种模式下的问题是整个泰特集团如何协调,Andrea Nixon提到,泰特利物浦美术馆感兴趣的展览有可能泰特伦敦美术馆也感兴趣,这种情况下,他们要思考的是如何相互合作,共同展示出一个整体。除此之外,泰特利物浦美术馆的特色是这里有大规模的家庭活动,他们和当地幼儿园合作,并且每个星期天下午有丰富的家庭活动。他们注重年轻一代对美术馆的反馈,并相信,年轻人所希望的美术馆的样子才是未来的发展方向。

Victoria Pomery, Director of Turner Contemporary

英国透纳当代美术馆的Victoria Pomery来自英国海边度假小镇马盖特,透纳曾认为这里光线很好适宜作画,并在马盖特生活很久。这所美术馆建设的目的也是为当地文化助力,最初靠公众拨款建成。建成之初,公众对美术馆的参与性并不强。但是通过系列展览和与观众们的互动,如今这里已经达到年参观量一百八十万人次,为当地增加了就业,也带来了经济发展。最后,Victoria Pomery指出,生活的质量是推动美术馆发展的有效动力。

王春辰 中央美术学院美术馆 学术部主任

来自中央美术学院美术馆的王春辰随后发言,他认为,如今美术馆有一种新的公共性,这种新的公共性体现在美术馆对当代艺术史的书写上。过去,人们去教堂受教体验,而如今,美术馆正在扮演这种传播知识的角色。这种新的公共性还体现在美术馆应该是社会支持、社会拥有的,为联接各阶层各机构服务,在展览上应该努力呈现艺术史发展的完整序列。

讨论现场

在短暂的休息后,进入研讨会的第二部分,嘉宾之间进行了深入交流并与来会观众互动讨论。嘉宾们对美术馆的社会角色中“社会”二字如何定义,以及美术馆的公立和私立性质是否对立等相关问题进行了进一步阐释。在观众提问环节中,一位女性观众指出一个有趣的现象,即本次研讨会中方的馆长为男性,而英方的三位馆长均为女性,由此引发男性和女性在谈及美术馆的角色问题上出发点是否有所不同,也带给我们研讨会内容以外的一些思考。

CAFA Art Museum Publication Authorization Agreement

I fully agree to CAFA Art Museum (CAFAM) submitting to CAFA for publication the images, pictures, texts, writings, and event products (such as works created during participation in workshops) related to me from my participation in public events (including museum member events) organized by the CAFA Art Museum Public Education Department. CAFA can publish these materials by electronic, web, or other digital means, and I hereby agree to be included in the China Knowledge Resource Bank, the CAFA Database, the CAFA Art Museum Database, and related data, documentation, and filing institutions and platforms. Regarding their use in CAFA and dissemination on the internet, I agree to make use of these rights according to the stated Rules.

CAFA Art Museum Event Safety Disclaimer

Article I

This event was organized on the principles of fairness, impartiality, and voluntary participation and withdrawal. Participants undertake all risk and liability for themselves. All events have risks, and participants must be aware of the risks related to their chosen event.

Article II

Event participants must abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, as well as moral and ethical norms. All participants must demonstrate good character, respect for others, friendship, and a willingness to help others.

Article III

Event participants should be adults (people 18 years or older with full civil legal capacity). Underage persons must be accompanied by an adult.

Article IV

Event participants undertake all liability for their personal safety during the event, and event participants are encouraged to purchase personal safety insurance. Should an accident occur during an event, persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for the accident, but both have the obligation to provide assistance. Event participants should actively organize and implement rescue efforts, but do not undertake any legal or economic liability for the accident itself. The museum does not undertake civil or joint liability for the personal safety of event participants.

Article V

During the event, event participants should respect the order of the museum event and ensure the safety of the museum site, the artworks in displays, exhibitions, and collections, and the derived products. If an event causes any degree of loss or damage to the museum site, space, artworks, or derived products due to an individual, persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for losses. The event participant must negotiate and provide compensation according to the relevant legal statutes and museum rules. The museum may sue for legal and financial liability.

Article VI

Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.

CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.
