"Take Shape" Performance Project -- Based On Exhibition Combining Art and Contemporary Dance

IMG_0376.JPG

In conjunction with the "Joseph Boyce--Social Sculpture" exhibition, the CAFA Art Museum launched a series of public education activities. The project entitled “Take Shape” was performed by a combination of two groups of people, one with disabilities and one without disabilities. Through the communication between the two groups of people, different people's response to the exhibition was presented, and then it was transformed into dance movements. In the process, everyone was able to find the creative part of themselves. The audience could watch the performance during the exhibition, witnessing the thoughts and art of Beuys from different senses and visions.

In the morning of September 15, 2013, fifteen performers including the disabled and those of the POJIE ART, as well as doctoral students, therapeutic education experts and special education teachers from the Beijing Dance Academy, arrived at the CAFA Art Museum. At the multi-purpose hall of the museum, the performers began to learn how to cooperate with each other in various forms, and exchange ideas with one another. Then everyone visited Joseph Beuys's exhibition to feel in person the magic of Beuys. After that, the performers returned to the multi-purpose hall and shared their feelings after visiting the Beuys exhibition. Later, they transformed their thoughts into dance. All the participants were both choreographers and dancers. They expressed their views and thoughts in a personalized way. When it came to the performance time, everyone returned to the third floor of the exhibition hall and showed to the public the outcomes of their rehearsal.

From September to November 2013, these fifteen performers would carry out in-depth interactions and performances at CAFA, and eventually perform their new original dances at the Night of CAFA Art Museum for more viewers to demonstrate the outcomes they have achieved by appreciating the artworks of Joseph Beuys.
