Leandro Erlich: The Confines of the Great Void

The world-renowned artist Leandro Erlich's solo exhibition "Leandro Erlich: The Confines of the Great Void" has occupied the entire exhibition space of CAFAM. It is the artist's largest solo exhibition to date. The exhibition displays 20 interactive art installations that span Erlich's 25-year artist career, with most of the exhibits showing in China for the first time. The exhibition is another important solo exhibition of the artist's, following his solo exhibition at ZKM in 2015 and the solo exhibition at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo in 2017.

The Great Beauty of Art: Art Creation and Art Educational Influence of CAFA

Since CAFA was founded in 1918, it has seized the pulse of the times, with generations of the academy's artists creating many classic artworks at the important historical moments. CAFA's artistic creation and the spirit of exploration is influential in China, thus it has become an academic icon of Chinese art education. Upon the one-year anniversary of President Xi Jinping's reply to the eight old professors' letter, the exhibition selects important artworks and projects of CAFA artists since the academy's foundation, to reflect the influence of CAFA in public art education in China.

Making Plastic Arts for New China: Exhibition of Zhou Lingzhao at His One-Hundred-Year-Old Birthday

Collection of CAFAM

Zhou Lingzhao (1919-), prominent modern Chinese artist, designer and art educationist. He is one of the main founders of New China's design and mural painting disciplines, and one of the chief designers of New China's national image. Mr. Zhou has been teaching in CAFA since 1948. It is fair to say that his artist career witnesses the development of the People's Republic of China as well as CAFA. At the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the New China, and the beginning of CAFA's new hundred-year journey, the exhibition is a tribute to Mr. Zhou's artist career, an in-depth study into his works, and a great retrospective and commemoration of his century-old artist life.

Research Exhibition of Liu Xian's Works

Donation of Wang Renyin, Liu Xian's daughter, in 2018

Liu Xian (1915-1990), pioneer of the emerging wood engraving movement in China, representative of wood engraving's Yan'an school. Under the influence and guidance of Mr. Lu Xun, Mr. Liu devoted himself in revolutionary literature and art cause in his youth. He viewed art more higly than life, decided to study the traditional western wood engraving and persisted in it for life, created over a thousand wood engraving works, and played a great part in the introduction and dissemination of wood engraving in China. The exhibition will take the representative themes of Mr. Liu's works as an entry-point, explores Mr. Liu's unique position in 20th century Chinese engraving art, and displays the tender yet powerful spirit of public art education in his works.

"1+1" Polish Lithography Exhibition

Poland is a country known for its lithography. From government to university, lithography is attached great importance. The International Print Biennial held in Poland is world famous. Located in the middle ground between the east and the west, Poland has an inclusive culture and national identity. In certain scientific and artistic aspects, China has a leading position at the international stage, but in order to continue developing, China needs to seek new resources, to dig into its history while expanding abroad. The exhibition will introduce the lithography exhibitions of two academies of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and Kraków, bring inspiration to print artists in CAFA and China, and promote friendship between Chinese and Polish people.

Da Vinci and His Art Community

This year marks the 500 anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci's death. His legacy transcends time and space and national boundaries, and is brimmed with eternal charm. Commemorative activities are held around the globe. The exhibition will not only showcase precious originals of Da Vinci's, but also exhibit works by Da Vinci's students and followers. Da Vinci and his art community's paintings will form a dialogue of different dimensions, from which we can confront with the master's originals, further understand the mentoring relationship between the master and his followers, and gain an insight of Da Vinci's art and his influence on later generations.

Phenakistoscope: International Exhibition of Animation Art from Five Prestigious Art Schools

This is the first international exhibition that mixes academic animation, avant-garde art, experimental video and new media art in China. The exhibition will showcase the Phenakistoscope Animation Art Award's shortlisted works by five art schools, study and display the themes of contemporary animation art, application of avant-garde animation technologies and trends of animation visual design, manifest the blending characteristics of animation visual art under the globalization context. Meanwhile, international animation art masters will engage in dialogues with emerging animation artists through lectures and symposiums. It will construct a platform for animation art communications that drive creativity in motion art and culture.

Pioneering: Chinese Artists Abroad in France and Chinese Modern Art (1911-1949)

The exhibition is the first large-scale academic exhibition curated by CAFAM following the 100-year anniversary of CAFA, and is supported by the National Art Fund. The exhibition borrows over 200 works from the public and private institutions and private collectors, showcases the academic journey of over 50 artists who have studied in France. The exhibition is divided into four parts, to comprehensively display the historical nodes of the transformation of Chinese art in the first half of 20th century, the path of the pioneers that lead Chinese art from tradition to modernity and help facilitate the big picture of the 20th century Chinese art.

CAFA Art Museum Collection Series·Research Exhibition of Ming and Qing Dynasty Paintings and Calligraphies

The exhibition is based on CAFAM's rich collection of ancient Chinese paintings and calligraphies. CAFAM aims to display a regular collection exhibition that knowledgeably shows the development process of ancient Chinese art history by selecting the best works from different era in its collection, meticulously curating the exhibition and blending in profound academic thinking. The exhibited works can be dated back as early as Song and Yuan dynasties and as late as end of Qing Dynasty, spanning nearly a thousand years. It will be a significant exhibition to study the formation of the tradition of ancient Chinese paintings and calligraphies, and an important attempt of CAFAM to explore the form of regular collection exhibition.

Ren Bonian is a representative and master of "Shanghai School", and has great influence on modern Chinese portrait and bird-and-flower painting. CAFAM curates this exhibition based on its collection. It aims to study Ren Bonian's mentorship relations and study course, display Ren Bonian's and his mentors and students' works together, study the artist who lived in Shanghai of a special time, the juxtoposition of oriental and western cultures and of traditional and modern civilizations, and reveal Ren's irreplaceable position in modern Chinese art history. The exhibition is CAFAM's first concentrative exhibition of Ren Bonian's works of its collection.

CAFA can publish these materials by electronic, web, or other digital means, and I hereby agree to be included in the China Knowledge Resource Bank, the CAFA Database, the CAFA Art Museum Database, and related data, documentation, and filing institutions and platforms. CAFA Art Museum Event Safety Disclaimer

Article I

If an event causes any degree of loss or damage to the museum site, space, artworks, or derived products due to an individual, persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for losses. The event participant must negotiate and provide compensation according to the relevant legal statutes and museum rules. The museum may sue for legal and financial liability.

Article VI

Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.

CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.
