早期北平艺专的国画讲义——“山水篇”

“莫忘初业第一程——早期北平艺专的国画课堂”展览着力于通过对旧藏中的珍贵课徒画稿的梳理和展示,呈现1918-1932年艺专早期国画课堂的部分面貌。此次展出的馆藏课徒画稿主要分为山水和花卉两类,展现当时中国画系山水、花卉、写生三组别中最为重要的山水、花卉两组的教学。展览现场也以课徒画稿的内容进行展示空间的划分,展厅一侧为四位名师的山水画稿,另一侧为五位名师的花卉画稿。

本期推送内容特别介绍山水组萧俊贤、萧谦中、贺良朴、邵逸轩四位导师的珍贵课徒稿以飨读者。山水画稿部分的导师共有四位,萧俊贤、萧谦中、贺良朴、邵逸轩,其中萧俊贤是最早执教北京美术学校的教授,也是首任中国画系的主任,萧谦中、贺良朴则是当时传统名家,早期中国画专业的重要教员,对于早期北平艺专的中国画教学建构,发挥着重要的作用。

古人坚信“山水以形媚道”,在我国历代绘画科目中山水画的地位尤为重要。这批作品在面貌上以古为重,内容涵盖山、水、树、石、云气等画法,从起手、组合到成稿,循序渐进。同时这批画稿的尺寸亦不大,并经过校方装裱成硬质卡片,在教学中取用方便,不易损坏,方便学生课内外临摹研习,充分体现了这批作品教学的特点,深得芥子园画谱的遗法。这批课徒画稿中最早的可溯至1918年北京美术学校建校之初,主体形成于1920年代的北京美术专门学校时期,通过课徒稿上加盖的学校印戳,可以判断这批画稿至少在教学中沿用至1937年前后,使用了近20年。

我国画法当仿古人手,必先从事临摹,限以十余种之皴法,俾学者殚精竭虑,以专攻其某一种。至所学既成,心手相应,然后可以杂取旁收,自具炉冶,镕铸诸家而自成一家。又极注重风神与气韵,此为我国特有之教法,亦即我国之所长,而与西洋诸国完全相反者也。

本次展出的虽然是课徒画稿,但却体现了鲜明的个人风格,如萧谦中和萧俊贤,他们一起被合称“二萧”,列为“旧都四家”,前人赞曰“琉璃厂肆成年见,满地烟云有二萧”。以“二萧”为例,虽然二者作品都以传统画稿的模式呈现,画面简练。但萧俊贤善用渴笔焦墨,笔法娟秀,师法四王,尤重“惜墨如金”之诀。而萧谦中笔力雄厚,墨气浓重,有“黑萧”之誉,是晚年致力石涛的结果。二者虽师承一脉,作品又是课堂示范,但笔墨对比鲜明,风格特征明显。


1.萧俊贤

萧俊贤(1865—1949年)

简历

萧俊贤(1865—1949年),字厔泉,号铁夫,湖南衡阳人。萧俊贤青年时在家乡从学于苍崖法师和山水画家沈翰,宗法四王和宋元诸家。1910年他历史性地成为晚清新式学堂第一位教授中国画的教师,任南京两江优级师范学堂图画手工科毛笔画教习。自1918年始,萧俊贤任教于南、北两京高等师范学校和美术学校,亦参加余绍宋组织“宣南画社”等社团雅集。1922年后,他任北京美术专门学校—国立艺术专门学校中国画系主任,又历史性地成为中国第一国立美术学校首任中国画系主任。1928年7月,商务印书馆出版日本学者大村西崖著《中国美术史》,称之为“民国以来一大家”。10月,萧俊贤辞职迁居沪上,以鬻画终老。萧俊贤工画山水,兼写意花卉,走的是一条“约以致精,更博以穷变”的学古、知新、求变的艺术实践之路。中央美术学院美术馆藏其山水画稿14幅,尺幅不大,要在示范引导,而非个人抒写性灵,因而画稿不仅清楚交代了山石林木的笔墨造型结构与画法,而且在画之为画要在意境的教学导入方面非常自觉和鲜明。

画稿的创作时间

萧俊贤先生此批课徒画稿除其本人的名章之外,皆钤“北京美术学校之章”。“北京美术学校之章”为北京美术学校的校章,最为重要,应是学校重要公文、文件中使用,本不应盖在课徒画稿这些教学用品当中。可以推测,这批课徒画稿成稿时间可能非常早,为北京美术学校建校初期,当时学校建制并不完备,并无其他具体机构之印章可用,只能加盖“北京美术学校之章”,以代表课徒画稿为学校公共资产。据此推测萧俊贤课徒画稿的制稿年代应为1918年,为所有课徒画稿之最早。


2.萧谦中

萧谦中(1883—1944年)

简历

萧谦中(1883—1944年),名愻,字谦中,号大龙山樵,原籍安徽怀宁。萧谦中约1903年由家乡到北京,师从同乡前辈姜筠,临学王石谷。期间曾以北京为中心,往来于东北、四川、河南。1921年定居北京,受聘为中国画学研究会评议,并先后在北京美术学校—北京美术专门学校—国立北平大学艺术学院—国立北京艺术专科学校及私立“京华美专”任教。期间,山水画开始由王石谷上溯元四家,笔墨造景繁密,渐与同样擅画浑厚山水的萧俊贤有“二萧”之誉。中央美术学院美术馆藏其云水树石画稿12幅,笔墨肯定,胸有成竹,从单一题材画法向造景构境引带的教学意识非常明确。

评价

“(萧谦中)所作画以沉着雄伟为主,而神韵具足,则其天赋,非俗手所能模仿者矣。又四王衣钵而姜(颖生)传之,萧君于耳濡目染之余,初亦从事于此,后乃上溯元四家,而最得力于黄鹤山樵。近复弃去一切,专师石涛,出入半亩,厂肆间乃有黑萧之称。不知浅淡者以神行,浓厚者以气胜,知之者惟恐其不黑耳”。——1929年《民言画报》

画稿的创作时间

萧谦中创作课徒画稿的时间,可能略晚于萧俊贤。从萧谦中课徒画稿所钤印章“国立北京美术学校总务处教具仪器股”“北京美术专门学校总务处教具股”“国立北京美术专门学校总务处”可知,这批课徒画稿是在1922年北京美术学校升格为北京美术专门学校前后所作。因课徒画稿形制、笔法相近,装裱形式相同,学校教学发展和改制带来的教学变化也对课徒画稿有了新的需求,故创作时间可能在1918年至1922年之间。

贺良朴宗法四王,上追王蒙,笔墨以董、巨为宗,运用披麻皴与浅绛法炉火纯青,是属于传统派的巨匠。但这批课徒稿却不乏构图新颖,别开生面的作品,虽画法仍以披麻皴为主,却清新自然,流露出鲜明地时代气息,令人耳目一新。而邵逸轩素以花卉闻名,但在课徒稿中十分珍贵地留存了一张山水画,内容表现的是初春雪景,意出宋元,全幅以擦染为主,辅以简练的披麻皴,枯笔淡墨足以见元四家乃至四王的影响,也展现出早期北平艺专的国画教育中注重山水题材的季节性因素,与现实生活紧密结合。


3.贺良朴

贺良朴(1861—1937年)

简介

贺良朴(1861—1937年),字履之,号篑庐,湖北蒲圻人(今赤壁市)。贺履之长于诗画词曲,是民国初年余绍宋组织的“宣南画社”参与者,他1918年任北京大学画法研究会导师,1920年任中国画学研究会评议,1926年湖社从中国画学研究会分裂后,他也参加湖社的活动。同时,贺履之也是北京美术学校—北京美术专门学校—国立艺术专门学校的中国画教授。贺履之工山水,亦精花鸟和人物,艺术实践以四王为基,上溯唐宋人笔意,又兼以华喦等明清个性派画家笔墨,风格多样。中央美术学院美术馆藏其山水画稿23幅,笔墨清润雅致,笔法丰富细腻,有书卷气。

评价

“顾长康善画而不能诗,杜子美工诗而不能画,从容二子之间者,王右丞也。弼则谓青莲斗酒百篇,豪饮狂吟,传为佳话,然能诗能酒而不工丹青。今吾履之则朋好聚欢,千钟不乱,诗酒兼雄而又工画,太白、辋川合而为一,亦足以自豪矣。” ——卢弼《南荃全集》。

画稿的创作时间

贺良朴课徒画稿大部分钤有”北京美术专门学校总务处教具股“,虽部分被覆盖,但可判断课徒画稿为同一时期、同一批次制稿,此批画稿尺寸较萧俊贤、萧谦中的课徒画稿变大了很多,可以看到学校教学条件的改善。创作时间可能为1922-1924年之间。


4.邵逸轩

邵逸轩(1885—1954年)

简介

邵逸轩(1885—1954年),名锡濂,号亦仙,浙江东阳人,是民国著名报人邵飘萍侄,《京报》美术编辑。工花鸟山水,兼及人物亦工致。1931年创办邵逸轩国画研究所,同时在国立北平大学艺术学院绘画科国画组兼任课外选修导师、国画实习教员。七七事变后回家乡东阳任民教馆馆长,1949年后返居北京。中央美术学院美术馆藏其丙寅初春所制山水一幅,意出宋元,枯笔淡墨,气象生动。

评价

“吾友邵逸轩先生,历年以绘事名古都,若陈半丁、齐白石、王梦白诸公皆其府上惠友也,傅抱石既以山水名,而其山石树木画法,实得之逸轩,世少知之尔......时故都梨园大家王瑶卿、梅兰芳,弦管之余,颇习丹事,皆师争逸轩。”——张大千《邵逸轩遗作及其女子幼轩近作画集》。

CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.

CAFA Art Museum Publication Authorization Agreement

I fully agree to CAFA Art Museum (CAFAM) submitting to CAFA for publication the images, pictures, texts, writings, and event products (such as works created during participation in workshops) related to me from my participation in public events (including museum member events) organized by the CAFA Art Museum Public Education Department. CAFA can publish these materials by electronic, web, or other digital means, and I hereby agree to be included in the China Knowledge Resource Bank, the CAFA Database, the CAFA Art Museum Database, and related data, documentation, and filing institutions and platforms. Regarding their use in CAFA and dissemination on the internet, I agree to make use of these rights according to the stated Rules.

CAFA Art Museum Event Safety Disclaimer

Article I

This event was organized on the principles of fairness, impartiality, and voluntary participation and withdrawal. Participants undertake all risk and liability for themselves. All events have risks, and participants must be aware of the risks related to their chosen event.

Article II

Event participants must abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, as well as moral and ethical norms. All participants must demonstrate good character, respect for others, friendship, and a willingness to help others.

Article III

Event participants should be adults (people 18 years or older with full civil legal capacity). Underage persons must be accompanied by an adult.

Article IV

Event participants undertake all liability for their personal safety during the event, and event participants are encouraged to purchase personal safety insurance. Should an accident occur during an event, persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for the accident, but both have the obligation to provide assistance. Event participants should actively organize and implement rescue efforts, but do not undertake any legal or economic liability for the accident itself. The museum does not undertake civil or joint liability for the personal safety of event participants.

Article V

During the event, event participants should respect the order of the museum event and ensure the safety of the museum site, the artworks in displays, exhibitions, and collections, and the derived products. If an event causes any degree of loss or damage to the museum site, space, artworks, or derived products due to an individual, persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for losses. The event participant must negotiate and provide compensation according to the relevant legal statutes and museum rules. The museum may sue for legal and financial liability.

Article VI

Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.

CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.
