2022年3月12日下午,策展对谈:“美术馆为什么要做加密艺术展”在中央美术学院美术馆学术报告厅举行。该活动是展览“加密艺术——一种新的可能性”的展前预热活动,展览已于3月14日于中央美术学院美术馆开幕。

“加密艺术——一种新的可能性”是中央美术学院美术馆在疫情之后举办的第一个科技艺术国际展,展览由中央美术学院美术馆和意大利代米克艺术博物馆(米兰)联合举办。该对谈活动于展览开幕前夕举行,希望通过与观众分享举办展览的目的初衷,交流嘉宾们对加密艺术问题的思考和对未来艺术发展的展望,以引发观众的讨论和对展览议题的关注。

“美术馆为什么要做加密艺术展”对谈现场

参加此次对谈的嘉宾有四位,包括此次意大利代米克艺术博物馆(米兰)的创始人及馆长皮尔·吉利奥·兰萨(Pier Giulio Lanza)先生、此次展览的中方策展人、中央美术学院美术馆副馆长、博士生导师王春辰教授、和两位展览的外方策展人,分别是意大利代米克艺术博物馆策展人张远(Maya Zhang)博士和加利福尼亚州立大学洛杉矶分校艺术教授、雕塑艺术家理查德·韦恩(Richard Wearn)教授。


此次对谈主题涉及到两个关键词,一是“美术馆”,二是“加密与艺术”。加密艺术在近两年持续成为学术界和艺术届讨论的热点,也伴随着一些争议。对此,理查德·韦恩教授指出,区块链是一种技术上的创新,能够确保在一个虚拟空间中的唯一性,它无法被复制,从而保护了艺术创作者的版权。区块链为加密艺术打开了一个新的空间、新的所在,这是一个虚拟的空间,可以将艺术作品在里面悬挂、展示和投射,某种程度上扩展了艺术创作的时间和空间维度,从而让艺术拥有了更多的可能性。从文化和社会的意义上来说,加密艺术意味着一种基于WEB3.0的全新文化时刻,它能够将我们在互联网和数字文化上生发出来的创作本能以一种独特的方式让创作者拥有版权,拥有作品的唯一性。过去的艺术作品传统是一种由艺术史所定义的传统,而加密艺术意味着我们可以与这样一种传统挥手告别,想象一种由未来定义的艺术作品。

理查德·韦恩教授发言

王春辰教授认为,无论是区块链、加密艺术还是时下正引发热议的ChatGPT,都意味着一种新的时代和新的变革,它已经超越了我们原有的对艺术的理解和界定。而作为美术馆,应当对世界范围内的新变化作出反应,特别是对高科技、新科技等一切系统中发生的变化作出反应。无论新事物是否发生在艺术领域,是艺术或不是艺术,都对整个时代的变化产生了巨大的影响。美术馆应当具有一种敏锐的、敏感的、及时的反映,并做出一种学术的探讨和判断,以使得学院的教育跟上时代的步伐,而不能仅仅停留在过去的思维中。近期中央美术学院实验艺术与科技艺术学院的成立,就意味着中央美术学院在科技艺术的领域即将迎头赶上。

王春辰教授发言

皮尔·吉利奥·兰萨馆长提到,过去几百年间的艺术发生了巨大的变化,并经历了一系列艺术运动,而艺术领域的变化也反映出社会发生的巨大变化。美术馆或艺术博物馆始终在尝试反映我们这个时代的当代艺术,加密艺术就是其中之一。2021年代米克艺术博物馆之所以举办“DART 2121:加密艺术在此刻”展览,就是因为将加密艺术看作是一场新的艺术运动,数字的创作方式为艺术家带来了全新的可能性。它保护原创者的权益,也通过区块链平台使艺术作品以数字化的方式更快在更广的范围内展出。不用于传统艺术,加密艺术可以使同一件作品同时在不同地区展出,从而将来自世界各地的更多的艺术爱好者聚集在同一个讨论之下。从这个意义上说,加密艺术的确改变了艺术在整个世界的生态。加密艺术并非短暂的泡沫,也不等同于与区块链相伴而生的虚拟货币,市场的火热的确促进了加密艺术的振兴,但这仅仅是表象。皮尔·吉利奥·兰萨馆长观察到,从事加密艺术的艺术家们已经形成了一个强有力的社群,他们彼此帮助、互相交换作品,这样的一个社群将在未来改变我们的世界。因此他认为,加密艺术在未来的一百年中将成为一个非常主要的艺术品生产方式,会有越来越多的加密艺术作品问世。兰萨馆长与张远博士认为,加密艺术正吸引着越来越多的年轻观众和藏家,我们作为美术馆、作为大学,也应该帮助年轻一代更好地了解和认知加密艺术。

关于“加密艺术是否有未来”这一问题,张远博士与皮尔·吉利奥·兰萨馆长都持乐观的态度。张远博士也提出,自2021年加密艺术在拍卖活动中创造记录后,引发了艺术圈内外的诸多关注,也产生了很大的影响。但重要的并非拍卖事件,而是要确定加密艺术本身的要点。她认为,加密艺术是否可以称得上是一场艺术运动还有待观察,其价值也在探讨之中,但有一种现象是值得关注的,即越来越多的艺术家正在投入到加密艺术的创作之中。加密艺术能否为艺术家带来更多的表达方式是尤为重要的问题,正如我们的展览标题,加密艺术是一种“新的可能性”。此次参展的艺术家中有很多从事绘画雕塑、摄影、装置、观念等传统艺术创作的艺术家,他们在从事加密艺术创作之前也已经创造了许多重要的作品,并在国际上获得了声誉,诸如凯文·阿博什(Kevin Abosch)和玛丽娜·努涅斯(Marina Núñez)。这些艺术家之所以也投入到加密艺术的创作中,正是因为这种未来的可能性。今天人们的生活与数字技术的关联愈来愈紧密,艺术家创作作品或策展人策划展览时也会考虑如何与社会分享,这是十分重要的问题。

张远博士发言

对于这一点,韦恩教授十分赞同,他认为美术馆具有社会功能,应当赋予这个社会的人,或者美术馆的观众一种找到新的意义的机会和可能性,让艺术家的创造性本能找到一种新的意义和新的展现渠道。回到艺术史的框架之中,我们可以看到其中存在一种权力的架构,那些被更多人喜爱的正是可以让人们凑近看到艺术家纯粹的内心想法的作品。例如,波洛克的作品之所以受到热爱和追捧,也是因为它们能够直接地、强有力地表达艺术家的内心状态和本能。从某种意义上来说,区块链或者加密艺术也能让我们更深、更直接地走进艺术家的内心。美术馆可以被理解为一个交互的界面,外在社会的文化态度与艺术家的内心世界在此得以交互。因此,美术馆也有义务展出更多数字艺术或者加密艺术作品。韦恩教授认为,技术有时是一种非常吊诡的存在,从某种程度上说,计算机的算法能够帮助人们成为更好的人,它拥有一种潜力,能让我们更好地理解人的内心世界,更好地实现共情和建立人与人之间的新的连接。

王春辰教授指出,当今交通和通讯技术的便捷使时空转化变得极快,人们可以迅速在不同地点与事件之中转移。技术的迅速迭代和世界的飞速发展有时会使人产生一种“加密艺术已经过时”的感觉,但实际上,无论是从事创作的艺术家,还是科学家、艺术家,都尚未完全走进其中。因此对美术馆和学术界来说,跟进和探讨这样的现象仍然十分重要。学校的教育也需要不断的改进和更近,补充我们对于艺术以及整个时代变化的认知。过去关于“什么是艺术”已经历过多次讨论,今天的我们不可能再用过去所知道的艺术概念、理论和知识框架看待今天发生的艺术。这是一个全新的领域,已经改变了这个世界。从这个意义上说,展览“加密艺术:一种新的可能性”就是希望带来思想的变革和认识的改变。加密艺术是一个未知的领域,它还没有向我们完整地展示出来。

此次对谈还包含一个小时的交流讨论环节,听众从加密艺术的终极目标及多元价值取向、艺术史发展脉络、区块链技术本身及加密艺术与其他媒体艺术的关系等方面展开了提问,提问者既有艺术专业的学生,也有对技术问题更为了解的艺术爱好者。观众们提出的问题都极具思考价值,几位嘉宾也对这些问题做出了精彩的回答。对谈结束后,与会嘉宾与观众一同合影留念。

I fully agree to CAFA Art Museum (CAFAM) submitting to CAFA for publication the images, pictures, texts, writings, and event products (such as works created during participation in workshops) related to me from my participation in public events (including museum member events) organized by the CAFA Art Museum Public Education Department. CAFA can publish these materials by electronic, web, or other digital means, and I hereby agree to be included in the China Knowledge Resource Bank, the CAFA Database, the CAFA Art Museum Database, and related data, documentation, and filing institutions and platforms. Regarding their use in CAFA and dissemination on the internet, I agree to make use of these rights according to the stated Rules.

CAFA Art Museum Event Safety Disclaimer

Article I

This event was organized on the principles of fairness, impartiality, and voluntary participation and withdrawal. Participants undertake all risk and liability for themselves. All events have risks, and participants must be aware of the risks related to their chosen event.

Article II

Event participants should actively organize and implement rescue efforts, but do not undertake any legal or economic liability for the accident itself. The museum does not undertake civil or joint liability for the personal safety of event participants.

Article V

During the event, event participants should respect the order of the museum event and ensure the safety of the museum site, the artworks in displays, exhibitions, and collections, and the derived products. If an event causes any degree of loss or damage to the museum site, space, artworks, or derived products due to an individual, persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for losses. The event participant must negotiate and provide compensation according to the relevant legal statutes and museum rules. The museum may sue for legal and financial liability.

Article VI

Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.

CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.
