2023年3月14日,“大道丰碑——周令钊、钟涵、邓澍、侯一民、詹建俊、李化吉先生系列学术活动”开启,以此纪念和深切缅怀刚刚离开我们,为学校建设和中国美术事业做出杰出贡献的六位先生。当晚,“大道丰碑·学术讲座周”在中央美术学院美术馆同期举行,讲座周总主持人、副院长邱志杰出席活动并致辞,首讲由设计学院教授周博主讲《为新中国造型:周令钊先生的艺术与设计之路》,讲座由党委宣传部部长秦建平主持。

“在中央美术学院,尊称有学术成就与人格魅力的教师为‘先生’,他们是中央美术学院历史的创造者、传承者,塑造着中央美术学院的学术灵魂。一代又一代‘美院先生’前赴后继,接力相承,形成了美术学院的精神谱系”,邱志杰在致辞中表示,周令钊、钟涵、邓澍、侯一民、詹建俊、李化吉六位先生,就是老一辈美术家、美术教育家群体中的突出代表。他们的人生经历与学院的发展紧密相连,是美术学院的擎天大柱,是新中国美术事业的巍峨丰碑。先生们的家国情怀,先生们的专业开拓,先生们的艺术成就,先生们的教育成果,先生们的人格风范,为我们开拓出艺术与人生的沧桑正道,高山仰止,光耀后学。“讲述先贤的功绩和人格是为我们后来者注入力量,获得前行动力的一种仪式”,他希望通过此次系列学术活动,让更多的美院青年学子从中汲取能量,秉承前辈的精神,绍继先辈遗志,写就美院新百年的辉煌。

“为新中国造型:周令钊先生百岁艺术展”展览筹备

作为2019年“为新中国造型:周令钊先生百岁艺术展”的策展人,周博首先简要回顾了展览的筹备过程。策展团队先后拜访了中国政协文史馆、中国印钞造币总公司、北京印钞厂等单位,在政协文史馆、国家博物馆、中国美术馆等单位,和学校,周令钊先生以及家属的支持配合下,展览最终才得以比较完整地呈现了周令钊先生的艺术人生。“我们不但更深入地了解了周先生的百岁艺术人生,也从他的人生经验中获得了许多感悟和教益,令人感佩。”周博表示,展览的基调是实事求是、朴实无华地讲述周令钊先生的百岁艺术人生,就是展现先生个人的艺术人生与国家和民族命运的关联,突出先生个人的选择、经历、创作与大时代的关联。

周博在随后的讲座中,用三个阶段阐述了周令钊先生的艺术人生。

周令钊先生的艺术人生

艺术人生的成长期(1919年-1948年)

在这一阶段,唐一禾先生、张光宇先生、柳溥庆先生是对周令钊先生的人生成长、艺术设计影响深远的老师。他从留法画家唐一禾先生那里收获了扎实的写实训练,从中国一流的印刷专家柳溥庆先生那里学会了印刷制版的技术,又从杰出的设计家张光宇先生那里传承了现代装饰艺术的技巧,这种“转益多师”的经历为他后来的艺术设计创作打下了坚实的基础。

抗战期间,他参与创作了黄鹤楼大壁画,设计了长沙儿童剧团标识和抗敌演剧五队的标志,并留下了许多战地写生。抗战结束后,他又前往陶行知先生创办的上海育才学校担任美术教员,期间也留下了多幅速写和水彩画作。这些作品体现了周令钊先生朴实并精准呈现时代信息的画风,至今在许多作品中我们仍能够感受到历史的脉搏和温度。

为新中国造型(1948年-1966年)

这个阶段的前十年,赶上新中国的初创岁月,百废待兴。周令钊先生有机会施展他的艺术和设计才华,在国家视觉形象设计的舞台上“为新中国造型”,这十年也成为周令钊先生一生中最忙碌的阶段。

他作为主创者,设计或参与设计了包括政协会徽、国徽、三大勋章、团旗、队旗、十大元帅服、人民币等在内的新中国国家视觉形象的设计工作,完成了大量艰巨的国家设计任务。正如范迪安院长所言“他用崭新的视觉形象‘设计’了崭新的国家形象,使国家意志视觉化,反映了人民当家作主的精神风貌。”与此同时,周令钊先生作为中国现代壁画运动的先驱,主持了许多壁画和公共艺术的创作,开创了一种明亮健康、清新活泼的民族装饰风格,对新中国的装饰艺术影响深远。周令钊先生在其他画种的创作上也颇有创获,他的油画作品很少,但一幅《五四运动》足以使他在重大历史题材的创作中占有一席之地。周令钊先生尤其擅长水彩和水粉画,其作品色彩灵动、通透、鲜艳、明亮,表现力强,并结合西南少数民族的色彩观念,创造出了一种令人耳目一新的水粉“民族化”新风。

勤奋耕耘 永不停息(1978年-2023年)

改革开放大潮涌起,周令钊先生的艺术人生又焕发出了新的光彩。周令钊先生担任了第四套人民币的票面总体美术设计,他和陈若菊、侯一民、邓澍等几位先生一起,把他们一生对于中国民族传统的理解灌入其中,将人民币设计的艺术水准又推向了一个新高度。此外,他还创作了大量壁画和公共艺术作品,如武汉黄鹤楼新址的《白云黄鹤》大壁画,中国最早的主题公园之一深圳“中华民俗文化村”的设计等。他笔下那些生动而丰富的细节,反映了他为积累素材所下的苦功,以及对广袤的中国大地上各民族民俗文化艺术的熟稔。

“周令钊先生是既有‘想法’又有‘方法’的人。”

周博谈到,因为老先生话不多,又很少写文章、谈艺术,致使我们对他的艺术特点和方法缺乏了解,但这其实是非常值得认真探究的。他谈及自己比较深刻的体会:

其一,在理解周令钊先生的艺术特点时,要抓住“民族”两个字。不管周先生学什么、做什么,他的艺术思想都是有核心的,这就是扎根于中华大地,始终把“民族”、“民族化”、“民族风格”、“民族审美”作为自己的创作方向,这是周令钊先生在跌宕起伏的人生变动中一以贯之、始终不变的艺术追求。他和许多同辈艺术大家一样,都是发自肺腑的热爱中华民族和民间艺术,他们对本民族的灿烂文化抱持强烈的认同感,并为有能力继承和发扬中华民族的艺术传统而深感自豪。若谈文化自信,在周令钊先生的艺术上体现的最为明显。

其二,周令钊先生虽然不善言辞,但是他的设计和公共艺术创作是有工作方法的。比如,他特别善于“网格设计”的方法,就是通过打格子按比例精确地分解工作,有条不紊地把设计的想法“放大”到特定的时空中,从而圆满完成任务。从开国大典天安门城楼上的巨幅毛主席像,到全运会万人参与的团体操背景“翻版”表演的设计,可以说,周先生把网格设计的手法发挥到了极致,他能够在方寸之间掌握巨大的尺度,对各种尺度的设计都能做到心中有数。再如,他所常用的“集锦装配”的设计手法,就是把最美的风景和艺术符号按照一定的构图和形式法则“装配”到一起。这种手法应该是他在大量的人民币设计工作中形成的,最终他又把这种手法运用到了大型的壁画创作中,迄今仍是大型壁画和公共艺术创作中非常有效的一种工作方法。

将民族的美融入国家宏大叙事与日常生活中

周博在讲座结尾时总结周令钊先生艺术人生时谈到,周令钊先生的艺术道路,是把他所理解的清新的、质朴的、民族的、装饰性的美融入到设计和公共艺术作品中。这既能够成就国家形象和政治景观的宏大叙事,又能够深入到普通百姓的日常生活中。这种艺术的价值既不突出个性,也不那么炫目迷人,但是,当我们逐渐知晓这些作品的设计和实施过程,理解了它们创作的复杂和艰巨后,一定会感到惊讶、甚或是震惊,进而对艺术家处理复杂问题的卓越才能钦佩不已。这类艺术作品所蕴含的往往是我们时常在享用,或者说总是在不经意中会触碰到,却浑然不觉的价值。这种“美”,有时平易近人、清新隽永,有时又必然弥漫在特定的时间和空间之中,符合能够被政治话语和公共生活所主张的特定意涵、社会价值和文化品格,而这些恰恰是包括设计在内的公共艺术应该具备的特点,也是我们理解周令钊先生艺术人生的基点。

Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.

CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.

During the event, event participants should respect the order of the museum event and ensure the safety of the museum site, the artworks in displays, exhibitions, and collections, and the derived products. If an event causes any degree of loss or damage to the museum site, space, artworks, or derived products due to an individual, persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for losses. The event participant must negotiate and provide compensation according to the relevant legal statutes and museum rules. The museum may sue for legal and financial liability.

Article VI

Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.

CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.
