2023年7月12日,“写生新疆:20世纪以来新疆主题创作研究展”将在中央美术学院美术馆2楼B展厅开展,“写生新疆:20世纪以来新疆主题创作研究展”通过对中国20世纪以来的具有代表性的新疆主题作品的一次研究性展示,聚焦于中国现当代艺术史上一个独有的现象,即大批艺术家远赴新疆写生这一群体性艺术创作活动,着重审视和探究“新疆”作为视觉素材给近代艺术家的创作带来的影响,以及艺术家在“写生”这个绘画语言上的拓展和突破,展现20世纪以来中国艺术家们在这一问题上的探索和成就,以及艺术家们在此方面所作出的历史性贡献。

从五四运动之时,中国知识分子如陈独秀、康有为等人便推崇写生之法,主张改良中国画必须借鉴和学习西方油画的写实精神,以此作为冲击旧文化的有力武器。此后,毛泽东主席在1943年《延安文艺座谈会上的讲话》中提出,“有出息的文学家、艺术家,必须长期地、无条件地、全心全意地到工农兵群众中去,到火热的斗争中区,到唯一的最广大、最丰富的资源中去,观察、体验、研究、分析一切人,一些文学和艺术的原始材料,然后才有可能进入创作过程。”“写生”从一种技术准备过程,变成一种行为方式。

本次展览将这段伟大旅程的历史脉络分为四个章节,分别是:激情与探险——现代新疆写生的先遣者(1949年以前)、开掘与新篇——新中国文艺政策下的西行之路(1949-1978)、壮阔与崇高——新时期新疆题材的开拓(1979-2000)、历史与现实——新世纪的视野(2000年以来)。通过对四个不同时期的写生新疆作品的展示,聚焦于“写生”与“新疆”两个核心问题,解读不同时代的艺术家对新疆这一视觉素材宝库的发现与挖掘,具体说明为什么中国近现代史上这么多的艺术家们都选择远赴新疆写生。展览还特别呈现了刘小东、杨茂源、刘商英、刘雨佳、康春慧5个深入新疆的当代艺术实践项目个案。展览期待讨论的问题包括:第一,“写生”观念和实践在20世纪以来的发展和转变,以及这些转变在艺术表达实践过程中是如何运作并产生效应。第二,新疆的文化和地理的特殊性在这一艺术实践中发挥了怎样的作用和意义。

除写生这一艺术行为的讨论之外,写生之地的特殊区域文化属性也必须得到重视。自古以来,新疆对于视觉造型艺术有着重要的贡献,远古的岩石壁画拱卫出古代西域文明的摇篮,汉唐的佛教造像将艺术之光铺照向天山南北,丝绸之路又交汇着中国、印度、阿拉伯、希腊等多地文化。新疆地域的特殊性决定了新疆独有的人文景观和地理景观,这也是吸引和启发众多艺术家深入新疆进行创作的缘起。到20世纪后半叶,大批经受过现代艺术语言训练的艺术家沿着前人的足迹不断走进新疆腹地,重新认识到中国山河之壮美奇雄,汲取文化养分的同时,也让人们开始重新思考艺术文化的价值。可以说,写生新疆这一活动,既是艺术家个人的选择,又与中国近现代艺术史中重要的文化思潮的转变息息相关。

I fully agree to CAFA Art Museum (CAFAM) submitting to CAFA for publication the images, pictures, texts, writings, and event products (such as works created during participation in workshops) related to me from my participation in public events (including museum member events) organized by the CAFA Art Museum Public Education Department. CAFA can publish these materials by electronic, web, or other digital means, and I hereby agree to be included in the China Knowledge Resource Bank, the CAFA Database, the CAFA Art Museum Database, and related data, documentation, and filing institutions and platforms. The event participant must negotiate and provide compensation according to the relevant legal statutes and museum rules. The museum may sue for legal and financial liability.

Article VI

Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.

CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.
