On July 30, 2026, the 3rd Public‑Welfare “Young Docents” Program of CAFA Art Museum came to a successful close. As another vivid practice of the museum’s in‑depth youth art education, this program earnestly responds to the contemporary initiative of “Aesthetic Education Nourishes China”. Opening its collection resources to primary and secondary school students, it deeply integrates art appreciation with interdisciplinary learning, guiding children to pause, reflect and articulate in front of classic artworks. More than a public‑welfare exploration for aesthetic enlightenment, it is a solid step that takes the museum collection as classroom and art as a bridge, advancing aesthetic‑education practices, promoting the spirit of Chinese aesthetic education, and enriching children’s cultural experiences. The program consists of three major modules: exhibition knowledge, docent skills, and practical assessment. It is delivered by Wang Jun from the Public Education Department of CAFA Art Museum, together with Qiao Yanbing, senior media professional, host, producer, and Associate Director‑Researcher of the Omnimedia Communication Innovation Research Center at Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts.
Adopting a witty and engaging teaching style, Teacher Wang sorted out a three‑tier expression framework for introducing cultural relics and exhibits: descriptive depiction of visible details, knowledge extension tied to emotional resonance, and articulation of personal insights. Under systematic guidance, children develop independent expressive capabilities, enabling them to narrate the stories behind cultural relics and exhibits in a complete and compelling manner.

Senior media professional and host Teacher Qiao Yanbing delivered a practical and easy‑to‑follow session on docent skills for the children. Starting with the fundamentals of public speaking, such as stage poise, gesture usage and pronunciation rhythm, Teacher Qiao took four exhibits from the Ancient Chinese Art exhibition at the art museum as practical training cases. She meticulously unpacked the complete logic of docent narration and summarized an easy‑to‑remember, practical “five‑step docent method” to help children get started quickly in real‑world guiding practice. Through engaging interactive exercises including group hands‑on practice and on‑stage presentations, children not only sharpened their practical capabilities for interpreting cultural relics, but also overcame stage fright and built confidence in self‑expression. At the assessment site on July 30, the instructors were greatly surprised by the composed and confident performance of the young participants. After just a few days of study, the children had cast off their initial nervousness and timidity, and were capable of delivering independent professional narrations.

They can hone their expressive skills through practice and pass on such insights to broader audiences.
