由中央美术学院与比利时布鲁塞尔自由大学联合举办的“乌托邦的尺寸——重读中国当代艺术”展览于7月16日晚19点在布鲁塞尔艺术中心揭幕。比利时副首相兼任比利时外交大臣Mr. Didier Reynders、比利时首都大区主席Mr. Rudi Vervoort、中国驻比利时大使曲星、比利时布鲁塞尔自由大学副校长Mr. Jan Cornelis作为嘉宾出席,来自比利时政界、企业界、文化艺术界的艺术家、评论家以及收藏家等200多人参加了开幕式。

最近二三十年来,一个现象正在遥远的中国不断显现,这使古老而又自豪的西方艺术世界开始意识到:这个一直以古代文明著称、似乎一直在沉睡的国家,突然爆发出一种前所未有的能量,以迅猛的经济发展速度、奇特的工作方式,呈现出对世界新格局的重要性。这同样反映在中国当代艺术的表现中,我们必须面对这个地方新艺术现象对全球当代艺术界做出的启示与贡献。与对中国现象的判断一样,部分敏感的国际思想界、文化界、艺术界人士开始警觉到中国当代艺术能量的未来价值。这些了解历史变迁并对全球文化艺术问题抱有客观态度的人,他们尝试将中国艺术家的作品带入欧洲,并与国际当代艺术并置来进行考察。

“乌托邦的尺寸——重读中国当代艺术”既不是对于中国当代艺术做简单猎奇式的观看;也不是意识形态层面的利用;也不仅是有关中国信息的挪用,它是一种独特策展方式的尝试。在这里,中国艺术家与西方艺术家同行们平等、开放的对话,彼此的作品构成互文关系,其结果令人耳目一新,并让欧洲的观众更容易进入、理解中国艺术家的作品。同样是为此目的,王璜生教授贡献并策划了“中国当代艺术流变”单元。在这次当代艺术的交流中,中国艺术家不再以其国籍为首要特征而被区分,而是成为全球“视觉艺术”的理所当然的、令人欣赏的贡献者。

这个展览是中央美术学院与布鲁塞尔自由大学长期合作的成果,它也对应了去年由布鲁塞尔首都大区发起,由汉斯·德·沃尔夫教授策划,在中央美术学院美术馆举办的展览“师传与模仿”。此次展览受到布鲁塞尔艺术中心的大力支持。期待我们在未来将有更为深远的交流与合作。

篇章一:徐冰
语言的传承
徐冰多数的作品来自于他对书写语言现象的深深着迷。从他的1980年代末期的文字发明作品《天书》,到他最近的影像巨作《汉字的性格》,皆对具有各种意义的书写符号灌注长期深刻的研究。作品《地书》对文字的关注则展现在收集生活中的标识符号,发明一种新颖而世人都能读懂的“标识文字”。本展首次将徐冰的文字世界与几位具有与他类似想法和创作手法的艺术家的作品并置,他们每一位都以其独特的语言诠释作品:如来自象牙海岸的Frédéric Bruly Bouabré、来自印度的Jivya Soma Mashe,以及Marcel Broodthaers、Alighiero e Boetti、Le Corbusier和Guy Rombouts。由此,几个不同的文明世界以一种特殊方式串连在了一起。


篇章二:孙原&彭禹   
请注意:艺术品不是艺术品本身
在中国当代艺术界中,艺术家夫妇孙原和彭禹的作品独树一帜。他们的艺术方式极具原发性,有趣又不易理解,他们的另类天赋使得他们的创作充满挑衅意味。在中国当代艺术发展到1999年,出现了一批年轻艺术家借助身体和生物材料的直接使用,对存在及终极问题探讨的“后感性”运动,这两位艺术家是这一运动的主要推动者。他们近期的作品大多是对有关人类自身定义的、紧要性的当代问题的深刻考察。这方面的兴趣使得他们的关注点从艺术历史转向对科学的发展考察,从艺术世界转向武器制造及其相关后果追问。这个题为《No Way》的作品是两位艺术家为此展特别制作的。



篇章三:宋冬
那些城市未曾忘却的浮光掠影
宋冬成长于文化大革命时期。文化大革命深深地影响到他的家庭。这影响使宋冬的作品里带有两个主要元素:与家人的情感,以及使用属于过去的“形似物”。“形似物”是旧物,它们曾经是某人或某物的一部分,但在物换星移之后,这些物体原本的属性逐渐逝去。透过将这些旧物组装在一起,宋冬赋予它们新的生命与命运。他采用了一种特别的方式赋予物质新的秩序,这种方式即是:艺术。艺术家在布鲁塞尔的球戏广场二手市场购买了许多旧物来完成为本次展览创作的作品。虽然宋冬的创作方式脱离了策展人最初的设想,但通过“穷人的智慧”准则,宋冬成功的实现了另一种布鲁塞尔与北京之间的连接。



篇章四:刘小东
绘画难以捕捉的精确
作为热爱以绘画作为主要表达手段的艺术家,刘小东的作品擅长表达微妙的心理层次主题。不以照相视野为视点,艺术家倾向于直面特定的情境,在现场作画并将人物融入语境中。为了本次展览,策展人邀请刘小东创作了两幅全新的人物作品,分别为两位居住并工作于布鲁塞尔的重要艺术家。此创作于2015年5月,在Joëlle Tuerlinckx与Jan Lauwers的工作室中完成,并由Dirk Braeckman摄影纪录作画过程。基于此创作以及其他相关文献,也产生了两件新的摄影作品。该展厅主要展示刘小东的肖像作品,为观众提供了解其作品的机会。






篇章五:尹秀珍
建设中的城市乌托邦
尹秀珍的艺术大抵基于“再利用”理念。她的装置使用再生的废弃织品。基于“筷子需要两支协作,才可以有效运作”的观念,她与丈夫宋冬一起创作了一个持续性项目“筷道”。除合作创作之外,他们在国际艺坛都有各自独立的发展。本次展览尹秀珍从一系列的城市景观创作中选择了三个城市,这些城市都是她曾经去展览过的城市,城市景观被呈现在摊开的手提箱上。其中一件是新作,特别为布鲁塞尔所做,此作代表布鲁塞尔的城市天际线。为了与展览城市有所连接,艺术家收集了本次展览中来自布鲁塞尔的所有参与者的旧衣物进行创作。



篇章六:王久良
污染之美
中国近数十年来的巨大经济发展同时也带来了生态环境的严峻问题,这是当代中国的主要挑战之一。数年来,王久良精确地纪录了中国首都北京五环外的污染现状。这不仅带来了拥有矛盾之美的让人惊叹的作品(可谓中国当代摄影的新篇章),也引起了当局对污染问题的觉醒,并立法进行改善。在本展厅中,王久良的作品和Jan Kempenaers, Andreas Gursky作品并置,互为对话。展厅里还展出了Bodys Isek Kingelez以垃圾为材料创作的表现美好乌托邦的作品。



篇章七:曹斐
工人,是工人,也是工人
曹斐的早期录像作品受到图像与模仿的启发,她将一种新的艺术语言,属于她们的电玩世代的艺术语言介绍到艺术中。然而,她在深圳欧司朗灯具工厂六个月的驻厂计划改变了她的艺术生涯,这段经历使得她深度地了解中国新工人阶层的状况,并成就了影像作品《谁的乌托邦》。这件精彩的作品通过敏锐的观察,对工厂每日生活真实面的捕捉,以艺术家的、更是从人的理解原点出发,对于那些通常是平凡但真诚的工人形象给予深切的关怀。作品呈现令人愉悦的风格,影片技巧性地处理了西方国家普遍对中国工人问题的盲点与偏见。






篇章八:杨福东
城市
在千奇百怪的当代影像艺术的现场中,杨福东的作品似乎总是保持着一种冷静、审慎与淡漠态度。看起来他对当代艺术的样式并无兴趣,而是在想象与现实之间寻找一种“来路未明”的东西;是要将那随着历次社会运动而被洗掉的中国原初的DNA找回;还是在杂乱的社会现场中更觉离群孤独的个人,试图找到属于自己的身份⋯⋯尽管他的许多多屏大型影像装置给人们强烈的当代感,却透着对历史的语境及早期摄影遗产的依恋。




THE BRAIN
  中国当代艺术简史

中国共产革命并没有采纳西方现代主义艺术型式,而是采用苏维埃社会现实主义的艺术方法。在1980年以及邓小平改革以前,艺术家毫不具备发展新艺术形式的条件。王璜生是对这段时期有深刻体验的见证者,由他编撰的“The Brain”提供了中国35年来的当代艺术概况。以年表和文献方式呈现的“The Brain”,为本展览的数个展厅提供了理解当代中国艺术的历史背景资料。

Article VI

Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.

CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event.
