新世代英伦创造项目的首个展览“走进赫斯维克工作室”建筑设计展于2015年6月5日15点在美术馆开幕。赫斯维克工作室的许多作品是我们都非常熟悉的,如2010年上海世博会获奖的英国馆、2012年伦敦奥运会的圣火台以及伦敦新公交车的设计等。 题为“智慧课堂:与托马斯•赫斯维克探索设计的魅力”的讲座作为展期内第一项公教活动紧接在开幕式后进行,托马斯•赫斯维克在讲座中为大家介绍他和他的团队设计项目的故事,让大家了解到这英国新一代富有创造力及原创性设计团队巧妙而独特的设计构思,讲座过程中充分展现出其个人的幽默风趣。

下午16点,托马斯•赫斯维克设计的“陀螺旋转椅”的视频出现在大屏幕,讲座由此正式开始。赫斯维克并未选择为人们熟知的2010世博会英国馆“种子殿堂”作为开篇,而是以聊天的方式谈到了新加坡南洋理工大学教学中心的设计项目,更多地涉及到他对于学习、教育和思维方面的思考。赫斯维克认为即使是在年轻的时候也应当相信自己的智慧和直觉,长大只是获得更多的生活和工作经验。这似乎很符合他对于创造性思维的重视;提及大学,赫斯维克认为在现代网络无比发达、各类资源如此丰富的背景下,大学更多的是提供人和人一起交流和探寻的机会,建构了更多可能性。
重新发掘建筑的身份——Zeitz非洲当代艺术馆
作为正式开始介绍的第一个项目,位于开普敦的当代艺术馆很好地诠释了赫斯维克工作室的创造性思维。赫斯维克工作室获邀参与港口谷仓使用方式的重新设定,作为这个区域城市再生计划的一部分。工作室提议将其改造为一个美术馆。同时,Jochen Zeita 的世界级当代非洲艺术收藏恰好需要一个美术馆对其进行展示和保护。因此,这座艺术馆也将成为非洲地区第一个专注于当代非洲艺术的美术馆。
相较造型奇异独特,分布在世界各地的美术馆,赫斯维克工作室经研究觉得这巨型谷仓特点鲜明且极具魅力,正是属于这一个地区的文化和记忆。谷仓的多层高塔和内部42个相连的贮料筒仓的建筑结构展现了难以被替代的空间体验和过往记忆,他们并不需要特意再去寻找或创造一个独特的形象。赫斯维克对进一步谷物以及当时谷仓的运行机制的研究,为他们进一步的设计提供创意支撑。被斜切的筒仓作为核心电梯交通核心和建筑的中心空间,概念性地重现了谷仓曾经的运行方式,成为了整个项目中最激动人心的设计点,充分展现了赫斯维克对于事物本身的分析以及与建筑本身结合的创造能力。
融于一个物件之中的庆典与仪式——2012奥林匹克“铜花瓣”
2012伦敦奥运会点火仪式是一个美丽的回忆。赫斯维克现场与大家分享了这个美丽的设计背后的设计构思。基于对历届点火仪式的分析研究,赫斯维克找到了一个重要特点:同点燃主火炬的方式相比,人们更多地将注意力集中在最后一位火炬手身上,而这往往是一个传奇人物并且总能精准无误地完成点火任务。这样的发现激发了他们的灵感,以此为突破点的“铜花瓣”为我们带来了由两百余个参赛国家共同参与完成的美轮美奂、耳目一新的点火仪式。赫斯维克用他们工作室的案例向观众们阐述了创造性思维是如何在设计中运转,以及如何近乎完美地打破常规以其创造力及原创性在同行中脱颖而出。
城市奇景之旅——花园桥
这是一个有关合作和发展的项目。这条横跨伦敦泰晤士河的人行桥有着两个重要的意义,一则是将300米宽的河流两岸的人们联系在一起,二则它本身会成为一座美丽的花园。赫斯维克强调要的是一个真正意义的花园,鸟语花香像自然一样和谐;同时,作为一个希望沟通河南北地区的设计项目,在材料上他们也选择了南北地区各自特色的材料进行结合,混凝土、石材和砖。
内外关联创造的迷人的体验——上海世博会英国馆
这个被中国观众称之为“蒲公英“的建筑,让赫斯维克声名鹊起。赫斯维克表达了他们当初两个方面的想法。首先他们认为想要达到甲方的预期,让该建筑在众多精心设计的建筑群里拔得一席之地,那么它不应当是一个四周围合的建筑盒子;其次,基于对场地的调研,他们意识到在人流量巨大的中国,炎热潮湿的上海,更多的公共空间是很重要的。他们在坡状地貌之上,进一步塑造地形,鼓励游客在此处休息、玩耍、表演或观赏,仅占用四分之一的场地建”种子圣殿“。进入建筑的入口设计也独具匠心,赫斯维克戏称这就像你给自家心爱的宠物清理,拨开长毛的样子。此外,他谈到在建筑内部,观众看到了来自英国千禧年种子库项目的二十五万枚种子,或许某个参观者会感慨说它就是挽救母亲的药品的主要原料。一句话解答了许多人对于把英国馆做成“种子殿堂”的疑惑。
细节创造的空间叙事——太古广场的整修项目
在我们眼中,赫斯维克就是“创新”,然而在这次讲座中,赫斯维克特别提到了这个项目,在他看来,贴心的人性化的细节设计会比夸张的设计更能打动人。在该项目中,赫斯维克专注于每一个细节来改善空间质量和创造空间的概念连贯性。无障碍通行的玻璃透光地面,增加室外公共活动面积,同时为地下商场提供充足的光照,多层玻璃的组合创造出三维的视觉艺术效果同时达到了透光、视线阻隔的效果,避免了在上行走的人的尴尬。
结语:
通过这样一次讲座,我们对于赫斯维克及其工作室的项目以及其设计思维有了一个相对清晰的认识,特别是那些之前并不为大众所熟悉的设计项目。赫斯维克工作室使用大量时间进行研究工作,对材料实验充满渴望,基于对场地、项目以及过往案例的分析研究,挑战常规思维模式,推动设计理念的极限,同时,不忘细节设计所带给人的感染力。这次“智慧课堂:与托马斯•赫斯维克探索设计的魅力”讲座让更多的观众领会到设计的魅力、创造性思维的强大与神奇,以及赫斯维克本人的魅力。

I fully agree to CAFA Art Museum (CAFAM) submitting to CAFA for publication the images, pictures, texts, writings, and event products (such as works created during participation in workshops) related to me from my participation in public events (including museum member events) organized by the CAFA Art Museum Public Education Department. CAFA can publish these materials by electronic, web, or other digital means, and I hereby agree to be included in the China Knowledge Resource Bank, the CAFA Database, the CAFA Art Museum Database, and related data, documentation, and filing institutions and platforms. Regarding their use in CAFA and dissemination on the internet, I agree to make use of these rights according to the stated Rules.
CAFA Art Museum Event Safety Disclaimer
Article I
This event was organized on the principles of fairness, impartiality, and voluntary participation and withdrawal. Participants undertake all risk and liability for themselves. All events have risks, and participants must be aware of the risks related to their chosen event.
Article II
Event participants must abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, as well as moral and ethical norms. All participants must demonstrate good character, respect for others, friendship, and a willingness to help others.
Article III
Event participants should be adults (people 18 years or older with full civil legal capacity). Underage persons must be accompanied by an adult.
Article IV
Event participants undertake all liability for their personal safety during the event, and event participants are encouraged to purchase personal safety insurance. Should an accident occur during an event, persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for the accident, but both have the obligation to provide assistance. Event participants should actively organize and implement rescue efforts, but do not undertake any legal or economic liability for the accident itself. The museum does not undertake civil or joint liability for the personal safety of event participants.
Article V
During the event, event participants should respect the order of the museum event and ensure the safety of the museum site, the artworks in displays, exhibitions, and collections, and the derived products. If an event causes any degree of loss or damage to the museum site, space, artworks, or derived products due to an individual, persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for losses. The event participant must negotiate and provide compensation according to the relevant legal statutes and museum rules. The museum may sue for legal and financial liability.
Article VI
Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.
CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement
According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):
I. General Provisions
(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.
(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.
(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.
II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use
(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.
(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.
(3) Geographical Scope of Use
The applicable geographic scope is global.
The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).
III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use
Use in perpetuity.
IV. Licensing Fees
The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.
After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.
Additional Terms
(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.
(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.
(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.
Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.
